About this Recipe
By: Stephanie Valentine
This is an easy recipe to make. The onions become less sharp and soft but maintain a crunch. They are a great topping for a salad, taco or add to a sandwich.
Ingredients
- 1 red onion
- 1.5 cups warm/hot water
- 1.5 tbsp white sugar
- 2 tsp. salt
- 3/4 cup Apple Cider vinegar
Step by Step Instructions
Step 1
Slice your red onion thinly. I used a mandolin to get them uniform, but you can also just use a sharp knife.
Step 2
In a measuring cup or bowl, add all the rest of the ingredient. Mix to dissolve the sugar and salt.
Step 3
Place the onion in a jar and then pour the liquid mixture over it making sure the onion is submerged.
Step 4
Set the jar aside for an hour (minimum) and then it’s ready to eat.
Step 5
Cover and refrigerate. It will keep in the fridge for up to about 4 weeks. (if it lasts that long)
